If you are an avid essay writer, your answer will be wildly different to mine. You might also have a different answer if you count typing and texting as writing. Here’s my own answer:

I’ve been in school for 12 years total, including “Reception”. I’d say for the first 3 years, I wrote on average 50 words every day throughout handwriting practice, homework and spelling tests. In the next 3 years after that, I probably wrote on average 500 words every day in written tasks. In the next 5 years, until my GCSEs, I likely wrote 1000 words a day. In the past year, during my 1st year of A levels, I have written on average maybe 1000 words a day (I only take Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, but the revision has become more extensive).

1) 3×365×50= 54,750
2) 3×365×500= 547,500
3) 5×365×1,000= 1,825,000
4) 1×365×1,000= 365,000

Total: 2,792,250, which is about 3 million (1 s.f.) physically written words so far.

I have actually been quite conservative with my estimates here, as I also picked up journaling as a pastime in the last few years.
